The Central Coast AVA borders six counties, from the San Francisco Bay Area in the north down to Santa Barbara County. Nearly 100,000 areas are allocated to wine grapes, with nearly 600 wineries producing wine in the Central Coast. Chardonnay takes credit for a majority of the vines planted in the AVA; however more Rhone varietals are emerging in the area.
