Varietal Notes:

Originally used as blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot was first tried on it’s own in the late 1960’s and was very popular by the 80’s. Small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and/ or Cabernet Franc are often added to make it more robust. As with many other wines, styles vary from soft to austere, depending on region and grower.
